My background spans natural resource fieldwork, government IT, and now real estate finance — a combination that shapes how I approach data-driven investment analysis today.
I started in forestry as a technician through the 1980s, including time with cooperatively owned companies that gave me invaluable early business experience. I founded Eagle Valley Resources in 1991, running forest inventory contracting (stand exams, timber cruising) for federal agencies and private timber companies in Oregon until 2000. I then began college at College of the Redwoods, transferring to Cal Poly Humboldt (then Humboldt State University) to complete my degree, while working from 2006–2008 as an independent consultant doing contract network IT (including retail server installations) and web development. From there, I spent 11 years as an IS programmer/analyst for Humboldt County DHHS, building database-driven web applications, leading legacy system conversions, and guiding the transition to cloud services and Office 365 — including its security implications.
My primary technical experience is with .NET (ASP.NET, Web API, Entity Framework, VB and C#), SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and NoSQL databases, with additional contract experience in PHP. I hold certifications in Responsive Web Design and JavaScript Algorithms and Data Structures from freeCodeCamp, along with credentials in Kubernetes, AngularJS, and game development — reflecting a habit of continuous, self-directed learning across the stack.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Cal Poly Humboldt, focused on information systems, security, and data-driven web development.
Today I'm the Founder and Principal of Newtree Capital Resources LLC, a private money brokerage and hard money lender for business-purpose real estate investment. I'm a Certified Master Private Money Broker (Lee Arnold System of Real Estate Investing), and I'm building an AI- and data-driven real estate financial analysis product for small and medium investors — bringing the same analytical rigor I've applied to forest inventories, government systems, and code to underwriting and investment decisions. My Certified Senior Transition Specialist credential also directly supports Newtree's financing work for assisted senior living properties, connecting my advisory and lending services to that specialized market.
Outside of work, music and creative writing remain a big part of my life.
